Day 3 – 30 Days of Prayer: Week 1 – A Prayer Foundation:The Lord’s Prayer

Day 3 Matthew 6:7-13 The Message

“The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,

Reveal who you are.

Set the world right;

Do what’s best– as above, so below.

Keep us alive with three square meals.

Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.

Keep us safe from the Devil and ourselves.

You’re in charge!

You can do anything you want!

You’re ablaze in beauty!

Yes. Yes. Yes.

One of my most gifted teachers who has advanced my spiritual transformation, Reverend Gigi Warren, often says ’it’s about your RE-LA-TION-SHIP with God that matters!’

God as father can be a difficult concept to grasp or comprehend for many reasons. Perhaps there was not a consistent father figure in the home while growing up or the relationship with those present was not affirming or loving. Perhaps, even harmful or damaging. This makes trusting, loving, expecting good to come from father-like (authority) persons present in our lives, as well as our Heavenly Father, problematic.

While we use human terms to attempt a better understanding of God and to develop our relationship with him don’t put God in a human box, even if that human understanding of a father’s love is a good one as mine is. If those good and loving earthly fathers we know or know of can protect, provide and promote their children to the best of their ability in marvelous ways, how much more can we expect for the One who loves us most and best!

TODAY Focus on the significance of relationship with (dependence, alliance, kinship) and trust in (reliance on the integrity, strength, ability of) God.
